Mississippi in a Box
I stay busy enough with Deep South Dish that I very rarely have to reach out for products to review, but I saw a brief segment about Mississippi in a Box on our local WLOX station and had to go find out more. Y'all know I am always happy to introduce Mississippi products to you, so when I saw the segment I knew I had to!Most southerners have a sense of pride in their home states no matter where they are from, and Mississippians are no exception. Even when we move far away from the Magnolia State, we always retain a very strong connection to our home. If you have friends or family from Mississippi who could use a small taste of home, now you can send it to them with Mississippi in a Box! The box includes a collection of tasty goodies, all made in Mississippi, along with a customizable, handwritten letter, sure to make your recipient feel connected to home.
Who is the Mississippi box for? Well, we're not known as the Hospitality State for nothing! Mississippi has the beautiful ability to make anyone feel at home and the Mississippi box is a perfect gifting opportunity, whether it's something you'd enjoy for yourself, to share Mississippi hospitality with someone else, or as a gift for a homesick Mississippian.
Five specially chosen Mississippi-made items come in each box. The hard working folks at Mississippi in a Box are working on giving you the opportunity to select what goes into your box, so feel free to visit the website to offer suggestions for future boxes. At the time of this writing, here's what made in Mississippi products are being offered in the box!
Located in South Mississippi at the Kiln, just off I-10 at Exit 13, Lazy Magnolia is Mississippi's oldest brewer and the first one since prohibition in the early 1900s, but they've spread across the borders these days and found a pretty solid following. In the box you'll find a Lazy Magnolia brewery key fob and bottle opener, which I've pictured here next to the Made by Mississippi sticker, that's also in the box. Learn more about Lazy Magnolia at their website.
Next up is house favorite, "Hub City Mix," from Southern Kernels Gourmet Popcorn in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, a caramel popcorn snack. Who doesn't love that?
Your recipient will also receive a sampling of Mudpuppies from the Mississippi Cheese Straw Factory, located in Yazoo City, Mississippi. You probably know them for their fabulous and legendary spicy cheese straws, made right from their Mom's recipe, handed down by their Grandmother, but they also produce a wide variety of snacks, including these little bite-size cookies, rich with chocolate chips, flaked oats and pecans.
Also in the box are Wheeler's Southern Praline Pecans, from the famous Indianola Pecan House, located on Highway 82 E, in Indianola, Mississippi, a family owned and operated company that has been in business since 1979. I'm a sucker for praline pecans and oh gracious me, are these things GOOD!
And last, but certainly not least, (and my own personal favorite in the box if I had to choose) is this delectable handmade southern treat, Magnolia Munchies, from Dixie Sweets Candy Company, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. It's the classic "trash mix" made with crispies, crunchies and pretzels, stirred into a creamy white chocolate - the ultimate sweet and salty munchie and lawd have mercy, your tongue is gonna slap your face off trying to get to this snack fast enough y'all! I love this stuff.
Now if that ain't Mississippi in a Box, then I don't know what is!
