The Peach Truck Cookbook |
We have some decent peaches here in the southeast region of this fine country - a lot of Chilton County Alabama peaches make it down here to the coast, mostly at the farmer's market and roadside, and while occasionally you'll see some peaches from around the area featured, for the most part grocery market peaches down here are not anywhere near local.
Given that, for the last few years, I have been purchasing peaches online from a variety of sources throughout areas of the southeast a bit further from me - namely South Carolina and Georgia. While they are at a premium price, I have had some fabulous, flavorful, juicy peaches that put our grocery market peaches to shame.
One source that I've purchased from is The Peach Truck in Nashville, Tennessee.
You may have seen The Peach Truck on social media - that's actually how I found them myself. You may even have ordered from them. A family owned business, co-founders Stephen and Jessica Rose wanted to bring fresh Georgia peaches to Tennessee after surprisingly discovering there were none to be found in their newfound home of Nashville. Expanding far beyond that base, The Peach Truck Tour now travels through Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Texas and Florida, bringing fresh, juicy peaches far beyond its Nashville origins!
My biggest problem with fresh, in-season, local peaches is, they are so good, I end up just eating them all and never seem to get around to doing much in the way of recipes. After the success of The Peach Truck business in Nashville, a cookbook was only natural to follow. I don't know about you, but beyond a few standard peach recipes, I never seem to venture out to different recipes, and before you know it, peach season is gone and I've consumed most of mine right over the kitchen sink!

Not only will you get some pretty fantastic recipes, and get to meet Jessica and Stephen, and learn the history of The Peach Truck and Georgia peaches, but throughout the cookbook there are stories and tips on storing your peaches, how to blanch and peel peaches, what it takes to grow a peach, the different varieties available through The Peach Truck, a Nashville Food Guide, and much more.
Recipes take you by chapter beginning with Breakfast - like the Peach Dutch Baby (pg. 32) pictured below, Rose Kids' Baked Oatmeal with peaches, Peach Almond Streusel Muffins, smoothies and bowls, pancakes, granola and Peach Coffee Cake to name a few, along with Small Bites for appetizers, like Pickled Peach Deviled Eggs, wings, Peach Jalapeno Cornbread, Peach Caprese Salad, and the Stone Fruit Crostini (pg. 79) pictured below.
For Lunch you'll find things like Peach Power Bowls, Fresh Herb Omelet with Peach Brushetta, The Peach Truck BLP and Mas Tacos Peach Tamales, pictured below (pg. 116).
