Air Fryer Naked Chicken Wings

I love wings. Love them!

They are one of our top favorite foods for football gatherings, movie watching or really anytime snacking.

I used to do them most of the time in the oven and still do occasionally but they are ideal and so easy in the air fryer.

Now... first a disclosure because it's important and it matters.

Just like ovens, individual air fryer brands differ in wattage and how they cook; monitor any air fryer recipe the first time you make it to adjust time as needed. Total time will also depend on type and size of ingredients used.

I'm using a 1500-watt Instant Vortex air fryer oven with trays.

Here's what you'll need to make these Air Fryer Naked Chicken Wings - it's not much!
  • 3-to-4-pound package whole chicken wings
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose seasoning (like Lawry's)
  • 2 teaspoons Creole or Cajun seasoning, or to taste, optional
Here's how to make them.

Just a quick reminder.... if you aren't interested in the chit chat, info, photos, tips and such on a blog, as always, you'll find the complete recipe text with measurements and instructions, as well as a printable document, a little bit further down the page. Just swipe or scroll down to the bottom of the post!

First things first. I prefer buying the trays of whole wings rather than the IQF (individually quick frozen) bags of already sectioned wings. The trays are a better quality and size to me.

While you can certainly cook these wings whole, it's not difficult to remove the wing tips (save those in the freezer for when you make stock) and separate the flats from the drums. A quality knife and good kitchen shears can make an easy job of it!

I find that often the IQF frozen wings have been super plumped with sodium and water and they release a tremendous amount of water.

Once done, pat the wings dry with paper towels. Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees F.

Place wings into a large bowl. Toss generously with the seasoning. I'm using an all-purpose seasoning here along with some Cajun seasoning. Some of my favorite all-purpose seasonings for wings include Lawry's (#ad), Everglades (#ad) and Badia Southern Blend Poultry Seasoning (#ad).

Lightly spray the basket or tray with oil, transfer wings in a single layer and spray top side of wings lightly. If using a basket fryer, you'll need to do in batches. If using an oven style air fryer, you'll do two trays but swap them around halfway.

Air fry wings, 20 minutes shaking basket or swapping trays halfway.
