Spicy mixed nuts, tossed with a seasoned butter and honey blend and roasted.
Bar Nuts
It's been a minute since I've spent anytime at all in a bar whether it's around town or on vacation, but I do remember a time where there were freely available snacks available.
Mostly they were intentionally savory and salty, purportedly to encourage your thirst so you'd buy more drinks!
These days it's more about offering paid for appetizer menu items, or if there are any kind of snacky freebies, it's typically small plates of food or appetizers called tapas,
Once upon a time though it was more focused on things like popcorn, seasoned cereal and cracker mixes, pretzels, peanuts roasted in the shell and often, a mix of highly seasoned and spicy mixed nuts.

One pro tip here though. When you prepare these for your gathering, include mini scoops (#ad) and small snack cups (#ad) so folks won't be diving into the bowl with their hands!
Here's what you'll need to make my Bar Nuts:
- 3 cups assorted nuts, including peeled peanuts, cashews, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, walnuts, pecans and/or whole unpeeled almonds (preferably unsalted)
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1-1/2 teaspoons Creole or Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 2 teaspoons crushed rosemary
Just a quick reminder.... as always, full recipe text with measurements and instructions, as well as a printable document, are a little bit further down the page. Just swipe or scroll past the step-by-step pictures below.
Here's how to make it!
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set aside.
For my mix I'm using kosher salt, hot 'Slap Ya Mama' brand Cajun seasoning, paprika, crushed rosemary, honey, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce.
Put the melted butter and all that in a small bowl and mix together.
Put the nuts in a large bowl and pour the seasoning mix over the top. If you're using salted nuts, be mindful of additional salt you add!
Toss and coat well.
Transfer to the baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees F for about 15 to 20 minutes or until fragrant and browned, stirring a few times. Apparently I forgot to get that picture.
